Some Agents have been caught on camera lying to their clients in order to steer them away from a home the seller didn't offer an inflated commission on.  This is illegal practice and happens in this industry.  It's part of a commission fixing scheme and also called "Agent Steering".

Commissions are 100% negotiable in Canada and for a listing agent to say "it's office policy" it is ILLEGAL. This is commission setting.  It's time to rein in commission and stand your ground.  Know the scare tactics, myths, lies and understand your listing contract. I educate sellers on how to be empowered and negotiate their commissions and what to add in the contract to safeguard.  Its YOUR contract, not the agent's.
